networking - Router Behind A Router

My condo building provides wifi. However they have a stupid terms of service window you have to accept before getting access. I wrote a script that can post automatically to that terms of service window and grant access. My problem is I can not connect my Apple TV as it does not have a web browser to accept the terms of service.

So I took a Raspberry Pi and made it a NAT router. I connected the wifi of the PI to the condo wifi. I put a cron job in place to run my script to post to the condo router to keep the terms of service active. Everything works great until I attached an AirPort to the ethernet. My plan is to create my own WiFi network using the Raspberry Pi as the router and the AirPort as he secondarily router (private wifi network).

So more or less there is double NAT going on. The condo router is doing NAT. The AirPort is using NAT.

After about a minute of use everything shuts down. I think the condo router is blocking us. The condo router will not route packets to the web. It will not give me an IP from DHCP. The condo router is a WatchGuard product.

Is it possible that the condo router is detecting the private network (AirPort) and blocking my access. I assume they are detecting it via the double NAT that is going on. Is there any way to fool the router into not detecting the AirPort and letting all this work?

windows xp - Virus duplicated user account on XP?

Could a virus create duplicate accounts in Windows XP? Said duplicate accounts have same rights (admin...), same name, but the folder name under C:\Documents and Settings\ is OrignalName-CJP[RandomLetters]. If so, what virus would do that?

Further behaviour description: All account files (from My Documents, Desktop, etc) are in the -CJP folder, not the original user's folder, thus indicating that login effectively occurs in CJP account, even if the account selected in the logon screen is the original name.

Answer

The "RandomLetters" are probably a temporary computer name under which the accounts were created (and using the other accounts of the same name as templates). I'm guessing that either a virus or SpyWare was attempting to set up a backdoor, or an update ran amock and this extraneous account creation was an unintended side-effect.

When an account, say "Administrator" for this example, already exists on a computer, and then you login to a network account by the same name, a local account called "Administrator.NETWORK_NAME" gets created to avoid a conflict with the local account that doesn't have that trailing computer name.

I've also noticed that accounts are sometimes created with this network or computer name added after a account of the same name was previous deleted by the data files remained. Obviously this is caused by Windows re-creating the account in a manner that doesn't conflict with another account of the same name (especially since some files in the user's "Documents and Settings" profile directories can't be deleted).

laptop - Keyboard no longer works on Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4100

On my Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4100, the keyboard is not working. No matter what I press nothing responds. The touch screen is still working, and everything seems to be working properly, but I have zero keyboard function! Any suggestions? I was up a few nights ago using my laptop and everything worked fine, the next morning when I woke up I opened it and turned it back on from sleep mode and none of my keys, nor mouse worked. Really strange to me, I did not add anything to my laptop or do anything, just simply used it one night woke up the next morning and can not use my key board for the last 3 days now.

windows 7 - USB Storage is Write-Protected

I have a Raidon GR3630-2S-SB2+ External RAID enclosure that I've just hooked into my system. For some reason, it's coming up as write-protected.

The issue seems to have to do with my Windows setup, because I'm able to write to the drives when I plug the enclosure into another system running the same version of Windows (Windows 7 Enterprise x64).

For both of my machines I have administrative access, and "Full Control" is granted to Administrators in the Security tab of the drive properties.

Does anyone know how to enable write access to an external drive like this? Are there any other steps I could take to troubleshoot the problem? Or is there any other info that you would need?

macos - How to synchronise filesystem between 2 Macs?

So I'm a recently converted Mac OS X user. I have an iMac which I use when I work at home, because it's comfy and powerful. I also have a white Macbook for when I'm working away. Right now, I'm constantly having to transfer files back and forth between the computers in order to always have the latest version of each file on both computers.

I do it manually, so my question is: what's the best way to keep 2 Mac OS X installations synchronised automatically?

On Windows I used livedrive.com but they don't have a desktop client, which is what was keeping all my computers in sync. I would prefer a free solution, if that exists.

Check out DropBox. It's what iDisk should have been. The free plan might even be enough for your needs.

Windows Live Sync or Windows Live Mesh would also be worth investigating -- they're both free and have clients for OS X.

How can i see if my SSD needs to have TRIM run against it?

I'm getting intermittent performance issues with my intel SSD (X25-M 160GB). every few days the Disk Queue Length gets very high and the machine effectively locks up - queue length being 10 to 15 for about 30 seconds.

Is there a way to see if the SSD needs to have TRIM run against it? I.e. some way to see how many blocks are marked as dirty. I have got the Intel SSD optimizer which will manually run TRIM but would like to know for sure this is solving the problem - always a pain with intermittent bugs!

System is running Win 7 64 bit. The workload it seems to have most problems with a compilation of a large solution - it's writing a high number of small files (approx 10K)

windows - Automatically deleting 'C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTemp'

I'm trying to find a way to automatically clean/delete the temporary files from C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\ at shutdown/boot on my Windows XP Professional x64 SP2 machine.

The main reason for this is to clean Local Settings/Temp to remove old junk automatically. (I had thought I had this covered through Firefox settings, but I was only clearing temporary Internet files). Currently, there's around 3 GB of temporary files, and I'd like to prevent this build up without having to remember to do anything on my part.

I have already looked at using Disk Cleanup (explained in Super User question Automatically executing Disk Cleanup on shutdown), but it doesn't seem to touch that directory.

I'm aware of programs such as CCleaner, but I would ideally like to use a solution that doesn't require additional software (so, I expect, something using a scheduled BAT/CMD script would be what I'm looking for).

One of the potential issues, I believe, is that there may be legitimate files in the Temp folder that may be needed on the next boot (for software installations or updates, for example) and the perfect solution would be able to distinguish those and leave them until they weren't needed (Note: I realise this perfect solution may not be reasonably possible).

I've already set up Disk Cleaner on a shutdown script, but when cleaning temporary files, Disk Cleaner doesn't clean this particular directory, and so I'm looking for alternative options (see Super User question Automatically executing Disk Cleanup on shutdown for a little more detail).

So, what are my options for automatically deleting the temp files from C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp?
